Patience.

I have had to learn the true meaning of patience over the past couple of weeks. Steven has a great job, but has ended up having to travel quite a bit. I don't like being home by myself. I don't like the feeling of sending him off. BUT, I know he is loving this way more than sitting behind a desk and this is what he wants to do.

It is funny. I thought I'd be more upset about him traveling so soon after we got married, but it's like we are dating again... not seeing other every day.

I keep thinking... If I can only make it through the next 4 business trips.... but, there is a great chance he'll have to travel for an extended period of time as least 2 more times...

I've learned that I have to be patient with him and his career path. I've learned that distance really does make the heart grow fonder... funny because you'd think after 5 1/2 years of long distance I'd have learned this already.

1 month.

This past month has flown by. Steven and I celebrated our one month anniversary by packing his bags for a work trip. No, I haven't kicked him out yet ;) His job with the Army Corps of Engineers has taken him to Kentucky for the next several weeks. He'll get to come home on the weekends, so I'm not too sad about it. It's like we are reliving our college long distance days.

We have both been extremely busy the past weeks. Here's what we've been up to:

  • I cut 5 inches off my hair
  • Steven started his job
  • We hosted the "July Bday Bash" for his family at our house... first big house party
  • I official changed my name to Matheny (it's still super weird to sign my new name)
  • We got our drivers liscenses changed
  • We switched/merged our banking
  • I took a work trip to Atlanta
  • We celebrated Steven's 23rd birthday
We are looking forward to things slowing down a little!

lunch.

Today I had lunch with my friends Julie, Hayley (and her boyfriend). It was wonderful! We have all been friends since high school grew apart in college and are trying to get back into the habit of hanging out. It really means alot that we were able to have a nice and almost quiet lunch together. We hit up a little bakery in downtown Franklin and it was hopping! It was loud and nosiy, but we had such a great conversation that we were able to block out all of the noise.

It is wonderful to catch up with old friends and fall right back into the old patterns. It was like we never missed a beat.

newlyweds.

I'm pretty pumped. I purchased my first vacuum today. Well, my first NICE vacuum.
A dyson. And it looks like this:
Steven and I got home from church, dinner, and dog sitting at 10 pm... and I pulled this bad boy out and vacuumed almost the entire house. I got distracted and cleaned out a hall closet. Steven played video games the entire time.

I just laughed and thought
"I can't believe we've only been married two weeks. Look at us. We are already an old married couple."

It's nice to enjoy the little things in life.

long weekend.

I am so glad to ahve a long weekend to spend with my husband and family. It's amazing how focused I can be on work during the week.

Steven has been wonderful to come home to. Dinner cooked or almost cooked. Dishes done. Laundry folded. And he has finished Chapters 3 and 4 of his paper. Just 2 more to go.

I have written 30 more thank you notes from all of our wedding gifts. And I have to say that my favorite gifts (don't tell anyone) are Vera Bradley placemats + napkins and the large pitcher that matches my dishes.

Both of these were unexpected and I am SO thankful for the loving family and friends who have given us so much.

Last night Steven's brother spent the night with us. I crawled into bed around midnight and there were still going strong playing video games. It was a sight to see :)

Tonight we are going to my parents house for the 4th of July pool party. I'm so excited to play with some fireworks!

Happy 4th of July!
